My grand mother Had Identical twin brothers and she had 12 live children and miscarried twins along with another child(she stayed pregnat). My mother has had a sister to have still birth identical twin boys and she herself "thinks" that when she was 18 she miscarried twin girls at 5 and 1/2 months. she says think because the Dr. Said girls to her after the hospital visit... And now I am haveing trouble concieveing with my husband (due to Low sperm count ) and May have to take fertility drugs..... His grand mother is an identical twin. I don't think It can Be passed on through the Y gene but......How possible is it that i could have twins? I aslo have a younger brother and sister and Neither of them have children yet. I have one, for another relationship. Could the gene be passed to my sister and not me or to both of us?

Twins from fertility treatments are a result of two eggs being fertilized, identical twins are the result of one egg being fertilized and splitting to produce two babies.
Twinning seems to run in families, as you can see from yours! So you may have twins.I doubt you are at higher risk of having twins from fertility treatment especially if your husband has low sperm count, but identical twins only need one egg fertilized. I guess you will just have to wait and see.

Well the chances of having twins are like 100 to 1 and Identiacal twins are 400 to 1. You have a half chance of getting a gene passed down. Sorry But I'm Only in 4th grade so this is a hard question !!

I believe that the Twin Gene is passed along the Male side. That could explain why your first child was not a twin. You have a very good chance of having twins or more taking fertility drugs. Good luck to you and your family.

Twins are usually passed on the X chromosome and generally skip a generation, but in your family your aunt had twins. Maybe 3 generations ago someone had twins. Anyhow, even without fertility drugs, your chances of twins is high.

I have wondered the same thing. My Grandmother was a twin as well as My father. THe chances are higher if it's on the female's side.
