I`m a driving instructor, and I find that it depends on lots of factors.
I have had pupils who drive great with me and then on the day of the test absolutely rubish, so nerves affects the outcome.
It can depend on the test route you have on the test, some are harder than others, with varying degrees of traffic problems.
Some examiners have different attitudes than others making the tests different.
What I can say is, the test is harder now than it has ever been but if you drive well on the day, you will pass.
Good luck ;-)

Depends on the person, the examiner, what happens on the day and a host of other factors. I passed first time but my brother (who is a better driver) took two attempts. But that was because while approaching a junction someone jumped their lights on red and the instructor beat my brother to the pedals. If that guy hadn't jumped the lights my brother would have passed first time.

Usually it is only 3 tries a year, and usually you have to wait 3 months to take the road test again. The written believe you can take it as many times as you want ,but of course you have to pass to move to the road test. That what it is in Washington D.C.,it could be different in your state.

One or two, don't go for the test until your are SURE you can pass it comfortably.
The 3rd time lucky approach is probably just that...luck, or you keep going for the test too early!
Anybody that "passed on my 9th time" should just be given a bus pass....

I passed first time
My sister did hers on second
My mum did her's on forth
Personally I don't think it matters how many times it takes because on the day you have to perfect - which is load of crap afterwards
