Depending on the age of your visitor, check out a half-day city tour. That will give some ideas of various restaurants, or shops that they might like to do. Also check out the local papers in the weekend section. Museums, galleries or other events might be fun. Also what is London 'known' for? Special attractions?
Hope this helps.

On the first day, you could take a train (thetrainline.com) to Broadstairs in Kent to visit the Broadstairs Festival which runs from the 11th-18th August. Or you could go down to Bournemouth to see the Red Arrows from Bournemouth Sea Front.

On the second day, August 19th, in the afternoon, you could see a Premiership football match. West Ham and Charlton are playing in a London "derby" match at 3:00 at the Boleyn Ground in East London. Then, in the evening you could see Prom 48 in this year's Henry Wood Promenade Concert Season. It includes Lyadov: From the Apocaplypse; Sibelius: Violin Concerto with Vadim Repin; Shostakovich: Symphony No 13 in B flat minor Babi Yar; Gergiev conducts the first of his two Mariinsky (Kirov) Proms, with a bass soloist from the company in the symphony.

On the Sunday, 20th August, you could visit the Royal Academy for the final day of the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition. The Exhibition, now in its 238th year, is the world's largest open contemporary art exhibition and features paintings, sculptures, drawings, prints and architectural models. Prizes totalling £70,000 are offered to artists in various categories. This year's theme is 'From Life'. This broad theme encourages new (and even tentative) strategies for art to respond to life and the business of living. Later, you could attend the World Mobile Phone Throwing Championship in Tooting, at Tooting Athletics Track.

On the final day, Monday 21st August, you could go to the Portobello Film Festival. Founded in 1996, the Portobello Film Festival has been described as "London's biggest filmic free-for-all". It's a large independent film festival which screens new shorts and features, cult movies and more at various locations around Notting Hill's Portobello area, including the Westbourne Studios. Guy Ritchie and Shane Meadows are amongst the filmmakers to have found their first platform at the event and the free screenings make for big audiences - around 15,000 people every year. This being Notting Hill, there's also a popular emphasis on music and VJs. They will be in evidence on the megascreen along with skateboarders doing their thing in Meanwhile Gardens next to Westbourne Park tube station.

I would take them to see all of the usual attractions especially the ones with UK history such as the London Dungeons, the Tower of London, Buckingham Palace.

Take them to see something at the Theatre, perhaps go into the Parliament building if it is open to the public on that day.

I find the boat ride along the Thames brilliant as you see all of the usual sites from the river.

Hope you have fun.x.
