CT stands for computerised tomography (same thing as CAT=computerised axial tomography). It is a type of x-ray procedure that produces "slices" through the part of the body being x-rayed. Think of slicing an apple, taking a picture of the slice, taking another slice, taking a picture of that, and so forth right through the apple. By putting the slices back together and then "flipping through" them (kinda like those motion comics kids make by drawing pictures on corner of pages of book which move by quickly flipping the pages) the x-ray slices not only show what's going on inside the body, but also help "localise" where it is since the problem doesn't appear on the first few slices, then starts to appear on the next bunch and then gradually disappears again as the slices move past the problem. By slicing through on different angles, the doctor is able to tell how far in from the front, from the left, down from the top, etc. the problem is. All this is done by computer programmes and an absolute minimum of radiation exposure.

Computed Tomography sometimes called Computed Axial Tomography is a method of body imaging which uses special X-Ray equipment to obtain data image from all types of tissues. Patients, sometimes, may be asked to drink contrast meduim prior to the the procedure. It helps diagnose small tumors or nodules sometimes not captured by ordinary X-ray.

It's like getting a lot of x-rays at different resolutions and slightly different places. It was the best imaging technique until MRIs came out.
