What a great question...
Of these two films, I think that "The Labrynth" is a better film. Although the storylines are actually similar in that the main charachter in both films are struggling with internal issues: Sebastian struggles with the insecurities of his relationship to his father and where he fits into the world while Sarah is struggling with how she fits into her "blended family" including her infant step-sibling.
Both films resolve their issues without dragging them out. Both films move along at a pace that maintains your interest.
I liked the "Muppet-like" puppeteering in The Labrynth better than that in The Neverending Story. I was especially dissappointed in the puppeteering of Falcor, the Luck Dragon. Although I really like that charachter.
Finally, the actors.... Jennifer Connelly captures both the beauty, innocence and determination of a young teenage girl trying to get her brother and her life back from the evil Jareth. And Jareth is played to a "T" by the increadibly talented David Bowie. Scary, sly, deceptive and ruthless.
I liked them both but I give the nod to The Labrynth.
Now, which one do I like better? The Labrynth or The Dark Crystal??? Hm Hmmm.........(trying to do my best skeksies imitation) That's a tough one!

I've seen both and I liked both. I preferred the book, particularly The Neverending Story. Willow and Legend are of a similar genre and both were good. There were a few books by Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere and Mirrormask which were made into movies as well. You may enjoy them. They are kind of a dark version of Alice in Wonderland.
There are so many good fantasy series out there! With today's technology they could make some fantastic movies based on these books. Let's cross our fingers and hope that someone else takes a chance like Peter Jackson did for LOTR.
Dark Crystal was good! Forgot about that one.

Of the two, I choose The Neverending Story over Labyrinth. Along those same lines, I also liked Legend & oh, heck, what was that Val Kilmer movie with the little people? It was pretty good too.

I like them both. The Neverending Story has a slight edge, because I saw it when I was really little, so it seemed really wondrous to me. I was older and more jaded (at eight...) when I saw the other, so The Labyrinth didn't seem as special.
The Princess Bride is my favorite movie of all time...I've watched it soo many times, and it's still magical.

David Bowie rocks, but hands down Never Ending Story is the better movie (since the Dark Crystal is not in the running).
