You're assuming that Superman's powers are a direct result of him being exposed to the yellow sun and that once removed from it his powers will disappear. Not true. Superman is a solar battery and his powers are a result of years of storing up solar energy. Superman can spend a considerable amount of time away from Earth before he starts losing his powers.

Untrue. Red K made an appearance post-1986 Superman reboot in a story titled "Krisis of the Krimson Kryptonite" sometime in the early 1990s. Possibly other appearances as well, kryptonite is rather rare these days.
As to the original question; Superman would know where all the red stars are by using his telescopic vision and avoid any flight path that would take him near one, because yes...he would lose his powers.

Hector S got it. In the comic books and in the animated versions, writers have attempted to "power down" Superman's powers, especially in space.
I think it's a bad idea-they've even had him wearing a space suit.
I can't recall the requirements for his needing oxygen, etc., but Superman has been subjected by various energies and blasts that would eliminate a normal person's lungs and capacity to use oxygen. Fire, bombs, radiation and other energies have often been blasted at Supes, and he's been invulnerable against them, so the idea of a space suit for oxygen and/or pressure goes against what his powers are.
Regardless of what type of star,he won't suffer, because, as Hector S pointed out, he is a living solar battery.

Superman has his special powers in the premises of Earth. Not in Space, and Superman is not a fool, he knows this very well. Superman also breathes like us, he has all other human properties, like others. If he tries to fly in vacuum his blood will ooze out, he'll not be able to respire and eventually his super cells will die.

General consensus seems to be give Hector the 10 points. Also, Superman does require oxygen in space. For short trips, he's most often seen wearing just an oxygen mask. In the movie, although it's not expressly stated, he uses the crystals in the fortress to create a ship to travel in.. One Superman sourcebook on the movie mentions it, though the name escapes me. Prior to Crisis on Infinite Earhts, his need for oxygen seems to have been much less.

(forget approximately concerning to the 1st guy.) Superman is supposedly conserving his breath. notwithstanding in the lively sequence he's shown donning an area suit. If taken actually, i think Superman can stand up to severe temperatures and carry his breath for an extremely long term, making him...super.

Starchild got red sun mixed up with red kryptonite, which used to cause unpredictable mutations in superman. Red K no longer exists in the DC universe; they got rid of it when they rebooted the DC universe in 1988.

i dont think that the red stars suck energy from him i think they just dont charge him up.
if he stayed by only a red star long enough i think he would die, but if there is a yellow star close enough it doesn't matter that there is a red star there too.
also he wouldn't need to be by a red star to lose his powers all he has to do is be without a yellow star for a long enough period of time

Because of a red sun, he still has some degree of strength to get to a planet before complete collapse, but it would be possible, as would a chunk of Kryptonite floating about and running into him.
