According to the reading I have done regarding hypoglycemia (low blood sugar), the brain, when it senses that blood sugar is low, will do sometimes strange things to get the blood sugar (glucose) out of storage and into the blood stream. Adrenaline is one sure way to do this. If anxiety causes an adrenaline spurt, then low blood sugar is probably the cause.

Suggestion? When anxious, go to the kitchen and get some protein, meat, a can of tuna (salmon is better) or whatever, and eat it. Also have some carbohydrate, like a handful of chips, an apple, or some carrots/celery, and also some nuts or peanut butter. Eat at least 2 ounces of the protein. Then drink a glass of water and do something active for 30 minutes, exercise, singing, walking. You may find your anxiety has lessened a bit.

Chronic low blood sugar can also cause self-esteem problems, anger management problems and a whole bunch of other physical and mental nasties - and may have been why you got addicted to cigarettes in the first place. You may want to check out the symptoms link on www.hufa.org, and see how you check out.

Best wishes

If the root of your anxiety is a cigarette craving a brilliant book is How to stop smoking by Allen Carr. I know you're an ex smoker, but it's a great book and focuses on the workings of the mind. Your problem may be the opposite though, the anxiety may come first, followed by a cigarette craving. If this is the case, you need to get to the root cause of your anxiety, often psychological (another GREAT!! book is Essential help for your nerves Dr Claire Weekes). All of the other ideas to help with symptoms such as rescue remedy, deep breathing etc are great ideas.

I regularly become quite anxious. Actually found myself pacing the living room after the wife had gone to bed. Did not know what to do with myself etc. I eventually made myself sit down with an old book I know very well. Reading this has really relaxed me and takes my mind of whatever it is that is troubling me. Sorry I can not help with the homoeopathic remedy but reading really does help me. Hope you feel more relaxed soon.

While I have never heard of Rescue Remedy, I can tell you that I understand anxiety. I have taken perscription meds for it and they have left me feeling wore out. About 6 months ago my step-mother suggested vitamin B-5, otherwise known as Pantothenic Acid. They generally come in 500 mg capsules and you can find them at most health stores (GNC). The bottle says for energy metabolism and recommends one pill a day, but my step-mom which has a lot of health issues and always digs for natural rememdies has discovered that taking one pill with water every hour untill you feel better works amazing. I didn't believe it untill I tried it. After you feel better just take one or two a day, anytime you feel anxiety creep up on you just resume taking it every hour. I don't know of any drug interactions and I usually don't recommend things like this, but I read your question and my heart went out to you. If you try it, I know it will help. Good luck. (The price of the B-5 is about $20 for 100 capsules, worth it to me!)

floral essences

Bach's Rescue Remedy

Rescue Remedy

Rescue Remedy has been used successfully on stressful days where we suffer from impatience, tension and pressure. It has also been used successfully with children to stop a tantrum, before a speech or job interview. Rescue Remedy helps us relax, get focused and get the needed calmness.

Many people chose to carry Rescue Remedy in their purse, at the office, in the car or in the diaper bag. You never know when you need it.

Pregnant women in labor have made the experience easier and less traumatic by taking Rescue Remedy.

Rescue Remedy can also be taken just before going to bed to calm a troubled mind.

Ingredients:

Star of Bethlehem: For trauma and shock.Clematis: For the tendency to "pass out", and unconsciousness, being ‘far away’ and not present mentally.Cherry Plum: Fear of mind giving way, verge of breakdown, anger.Impatiens: For irritability, tension and fidgety.

Rock Rose: For frozen terror and panic.

Simple answer, Yoga.

You don't have to be a bendy freak to do it but it will help energise your mind and body. Teaching you breathing techniques that will not only help with anxiety and stress but also help eliminate toxins from your body. Try a beginners DVD if you don't have a class near you or are too anxious to attend. I can reccommend the Geri Yoga and Katie Appleton DVDs but there are loads on the market

Also check out this website it may be of interest

I had tried everything for my severe anxiety and this combination worked wonders.

B Complex 100 1 pill 2x daily
Gaba 500 - 750 mg 1 pill 2x daily

This combination works as a natural tranquilizer, it won't send you to sleep though.
You can buy these ingredients at your local health food store or

Homeopathic remedies are available over-the-counter for acute problems. Many things underlie anxiety, including suppressed emotions (anger) and events unconsciously registered as traumas. Anxiety reflects a "constitutional" health matter, though, and you would serve yourself best by seeing a professional homeopath. www.homeopathicdirectory.com lists homeopaths certified in North America. Best wishes.
