my best guess would be athlete's foot. You can try a topical treatment. If it continues to spread or the treatment isn't working, your doctor can give you a prescription cream that will really do the trick, and you may need an oral anti fungal also, if it is progressing quickly. Athlete's foot is minor for some, but for others it can lead to secondary bacterial infections of the skin, so just keep an eye on it.

Since the other answers suggest possible athlete's foot, I will chime in.

If it is athlete's foot, you need an anti-fungal cream and/or powder. You can use lotrimin AF cream or any other similar anti-fungal product. You can order Zeasorb-AF powder through your drug store, if they don't carry it on the shelves. Or you can use yogurt. Eat plain yogurt about 3 times a week, and/or use it like a cream on the area. It will smell, but the acidophilus bacteria in the yogurt neutralizes yeast (candida) which is the cause of athlete's foot.

This is also the same fungus that results in jock itch, ezcema, thrush (white tongue), vaginitis (in women), ringworm and other skin rashes. It is the Candida Albicans fungus (yeast).

For basic information on the systemic yeast syndrome, check out the link on the Welcome page of www.hufa.org.

These are called "ids" and they cause the itching, due to the pressure they build up under the skin.. Usually associated with athletes foot, gone systemic .
