The owner of the Expos, Jeff Loria, had used questionable means to gain control of the team and then somehow found himself unable to sell tickets in a city that had supported professional baseball for over a century. While some might argue this was a deficiency on the part of the owner, MLB decided that couldn't possibly be the case and purchased the team from him. They had initially intended to contract the team, but that proved legally unfeasible so they took an inordinate amount of time to decide where to move the team and eventually picked Washington, D.C., where they're now now as the Nationals.

Loria was allowed to purchase the Florida Marlins, and he again has found himself unable to sell a team in a city that has supported professional ball for 50 years. What are the odds?

Was bought by major league baseball since its ownership was bankrupt. They kept the team in Montreal for a few seasons and played games in San Juan Puerto Rico as well as Montreal but the backing just wasn't there so the team was moved to Washington DC and renamed the Nationals.
