Agree with everything they say in an overly friendly way. They don't like it and tend to leave you alone after a while. I don't see why people think you should prove how good you are to them. Just prove it to yourself.

Nothing is more irritating to me as arrogant people. Rise above it. Usually a person like that is insecure and wants to prove something to the world. Don't let them get to you. I know this is easier said than done, but try to go along with that person or stay away from them. "Naive" is spelled like that in case you're wondering. (sorry, but I'm an English teacher who can't resist getting out my red pen once in awhile!!)
