Some men in their 50's are hot, but be careful! Find out if he has any hang ups. Like, was he in a war? If so, there maybe some post traumatic stress going on. This is hard to deal with.
Also, does he go to church? Is he an active member of the community and does he communicate well with his family. Does he have a lot of family and friends that may have a lot of input in his life or is he his own man? Is he self assured or the jealous type? Do you and he share the same interests? His views about money; is he a tightwad or does he have a happy medium? From my experience, seeking answers to these types of questions should help you to determine whether or not this type of relationship is for you.

In a lot of cases I would imagine money, ill health and some sort of high social standing would be the attraction.

Probably money! But also healthy, in shape (no beer gut), clean, well groomed, good sense of humour and manners, intelligence, good teeth (and no bad breath), own his own home, have a job...
