i know it cant be a nice place to visit, what were they all doing there? dont they like it here, or are they not really americans?

There were actually 25,000 Americans in Lebanon before the conflict started and several thousand have now been evacuated.
Many of them are American citizens that originally came from Lebanon. Many moved back after the civil war ended to start businesses and raise their families. Lebanon was their original home and they were happy that the country was being rebuilt.
Most will probably stay too, if it is at all possible. Beirut has a history of being a very modern, beautiful and lively city. Civil wars, Syrian occupation, Hezbollah activities and now the conflict with Israel have made it difficult for the Lebanese to rebuild the city to its previous grandeur.

Well maybe there just curious to visit other countries and see the world?!? You know there hasn't alway been war there and actually it is a beautiful country with seaside, mountains (you can even ski there!) and friendly people...and great food!
Maybe they work there or have family there...or they escaped from some narrow-minded and rather ignorant people?!?!?

You know I was wondering the same thing, why would you go there it doesn't look that nice. Unless you have family there to bring them back.

working perhaps...alot of companies have people working in other countries...
some could be living there because their family is there
