It's about ethics, and money... both. The Bush administration views using human embryonic stem cells as unethical because they feel that it takes the life of a child. This research is already being conducted, even in the United States, but no Federal funding is available for it. If the research funding was approved, then the government would have to come up with the money, and with the way things are going right now, it probably isn't available without raising taxes, or cutting something else from the budget. And don't think the drug companies aren't interested in this in the search for cures - do you have any idea what the patent rights would be worth on a cure for Alzheimer's disease? It would have to be in the billions of dollars. It could make their drug sales look like pocket change. Also, the drug companies do not control the field of medicine, no matter how much they might like to try. If you were a research scientist that could guarantee his own reputation and possibly a Nobel Prize in Medicine, etc., wouldn't you "go for it" even if some big drug company asked you not too, even if they were VERY polite about it, even offering you money to keep your findings or discovery quiet? If you are an ethical researcher, and at least a semi-normal human being, you would and you should.

False, it is about money, stem cell research holds great promise to cure many devastating decease's, diabetes, Parkinson's, Lou Gehrig, ect. Drug company's do not want cures, they make to much money providing treatments for these horrific malady's. Billions and billions of dollars are spent annually on medicine. If there were cures there would be no need for treatments. Bush has always favored the drug industry as well as other big business and I feel this veto was not on moral grounds but based on pure greed.

FALSE!!!!!!!!!!!!
The Big Drug cartels are behind it! Think about it? What if by using stem cells to create a cure for diabetes, where does that leave these drug companies that developed genetically made human insulin? Broke that's what. By using stem cell research they might, just might find through using stem cells be able to cure or at the very least control/arrest Parkinson disease.
After all Georgie boy has kids that have to have a job. What better way to insure that his kids make money and you get screwed.
