You only have a window of one or two days that you are fertile. That is at the time of ovulation. It usually comes about 14 days after the start of your period. So, if you wait a week after your period to have sex, you are more likely to get pregnant. But don't be foolish, the best way to be sure you won't get pregnant is abstinance.

Hi Danielle,

I'm not going to lecture you about this but perhaps you should take the below into consideration.

Firstly - you can get pregnant at any time. Even when you are on your period.

I'd advise you have a talk perhaps with your mother, a doctor or perhaps get yourself down to the local clinic. All should be able to advise on a good method of contraception, plus doctors etc will keep this anonymous if you require as long as they have happy that you are able to make this choice for yourself and they feel you are not at risk in any way. Theres more than condoms out there.

I would also recommend a chat with your boyfriend, how you feel about him is up to you, however there may be a communication problem, you should not be having sex if you are scared of the consequences, plus any consequences will affect you both. Why not even take him to the docs or the clinic with you so you can decide together which method of birth control suits you both.

And finally remember its your body. The only one you will ever have, love and respect it. There's nothing wrong with sex, its a beautiful and natural thing, but it's there to be enjoyed not worried about.

Respect your body, it's yours. If you don't want to do something with it, or your worrying about what will happen ( eg pregnancy or std's ) its best not to do it. No matter what your boyfriend says and no matter how much you trust him you should think about what you want. There's nothing wrong with saying no.

Probably not the best idea. Firstly if you really want to avoid getting pregnant but still want to have sex, then you might want to consider using contraceptives such as condoms or maybe going on the pill, just remember that neither are absolutly reliable.

Secondly it is possible to become pregnant before, during and after your perod. It might be a good idea for you to seek some proper advice from a professional such as taking a trip to your local family planning clinic. They can give you loads of advice and offer free contraceptives too.

Oh dear. For the love of god woman, you can get pregnant at absolutely any time of your cycle. I was on the pill after the birth of my son, and somehow my hubby and I still managed to get pregnant anyway (now preggers with my second). It can happen anytime, anywhere, anyhow. Luckily, we are in a position to emotionally and financially care for another child. From the sounds of things, you are probably still quite a young woman and most definitely not ready for the stresses (and stresses they can be) of child-rearing. Take a minute to think about it. If you are going to continue to have sex, at least use a condom. It's not always 100% foolproof, but it's better than nothing. If you continue to have unprotected sex as you are, expect to get pregnant at some point.

Sounds like he just doesn't want to use a condom and is trying every trick in the book.

There is only a 5 day time in your cycle where you are fertile, BUT sperm can also survive inside you for up to 5 days, so you can in theory get pregnant much of the time.

Why don't you go and get the pill from your GP and tell your boyfriend to wear a condom or else he's not getting any! Boys usually come around (excuse the pun) and wear condoms if you tell them they're not getting any otherwise!

Also, if you don't use condoms then you're BOTH exposing yourselves to STIs, which are NOT fun to deal with.

There is always a risk of getting pregnant whatever time of the month....hormones are funny things. If I were you I would be using a condom....You should be doing that anyway for your own healths sake. You are most likely to get pregnant around 14 days before a period when you ovulate but unless you are very regular it could be at any time.

Your Boyfriend is wrong you are never unable to get pregnant all the time you have unprotected sex you are at risk of getting pregnant so unless you want a baby get some contraception quick or don't have sex

Rhythm method.

This is the only type of contraception strict Catholics use. You wonder why there are such big families in Catholic Countries?

Was also the only method available to working class families until Marie Stopes came along. Again look at the size of Victorian families.

Also known as Vatican Roulette.

IT IS NOT RELIABLE AS A METHOD OF CONTRACEPTION.

NO!!!! You can get pregnant at any time during your cycle, don't believe your boyfriend either he doesn't know the facts or he doesn't care about the consequences. If you must have sex use a condom or go on the pill

be very careful, although its true you only have a small window to become pregnant,it has been proven that women ovulate at different times-not everyone ovulaes 12-14 days after the 1st day of thier cycle, female sperm also live longer and are able to survive 72 hours after ejaculation, and therefore wait for you to ovulate, ovulation is hard to predict even if you have a very regular cycle, ask him to be more respectful
