Actually it's both A and C.......The Himalayas are the present continent/continent collision site. The Appalachians formed at an earlier collision of continent/continent.....when the Iapetus Ocean closed during the late Cambrian to Mid Ordovician Periods. You had two major orogenic (mountain building ) episodes at the time, the Taconic and Acadian Orogenies. The Taconic orogeny occured mainly in Scotland, Britain, lower- mid Appalachia and parts of Scandinavia, whilst the Arcadian occured mainly in the northern half of the Appalachians.
