Patti LaBelle. When if first came out there was some controversy over the meaning of the song and the lyrics being appropriate for public broadcast, as it is Lady Marmalade was obviously a "Lady of the Evening" in New Orleans.

It was Patti Labelle, but was she in a group at that time? Maybe the group was called Labelle.

1973. It was Labelle, that was Patti Labelle and her singers. Love that song and far as I'm concerned, no one does it like her, and I've heard plenty!
