The best would be original music by local, unsigned bands or musicians that write and play their own, original music, that will do it for free as having their music used on a DVD pads their resume, so it is a win-win situation.

My son wants to do a short film to enter into a film festival next year and this is where we have decided to look for music to use is a website called "Unsigned Bands". Most have samples of the their music on the site and you can send them an e-mail and make your pitch...worst they can say is no and even so, most are flattered that you would consider them.
