Advanced Placement - you take a college level course in High School, and at the end you take a test. If you score high enough you get college credit. You can enter college already with a course or two completed!

I did it, and it meant I had fewer courses to take once I got to college. It was good because I didn't have much money, and I was able to take more time to work during school.

Good luck.

AP stands for Advanced Placement. It is essentially a college-level course taught in high school. At the end of the course, you take a standardized AP examination, which is graded on a scale from 1 to 5. Many colleges accept AP classes for college credit if you score well enough on the AP exam. Some colleges will accept a 3, others will accept nothing short of a 5 for credit. The advantages of taking an AP class is that you get exposure to college-level material while still in high school, and this better prepares you for the college experience...or it can help get one or two required courses out of the way. I have had students who have managed to get the equivalent of a full college semester's worth of credits just in AP courses by the time they graduate high school. You must be highly motivated and have a good work ethic to make a go of these courses.
