I have worked my entire life, from paper routes, baby sitting, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, menial jobs to rewarding career jobs. I am now disabled and have to live on the SSDI, which is from money I paid in during employment and is by no means anywhere near enough to live upon. I am the poorest of the poor and depend on some government assistance, grudingly as I want to work. It is very expensive to be poor. I decided to go back to school and be retrained. In the process and the massive amounts of paper work required to get assistance, I developed ulcers due to the incredible amount of stress. Have been in the hospital several times in last 2 years and finally got a part time job in May, but ulcers forced me back into hospital and in May, out of 20 days scheduled I was only able to work 5. Yesterday, as I stood in Walgreens to get medicine for ulcers,I called to confirm my July days I found out I had been removed from the schedule, due to days missed....

The internet connection costs $9 a month on my phone bill, and I use to keep in touch with doctors and out of the area family members, is it a luxury to have the ability to communicate especially to alert medical staff? And if it helps, I don't have cable tv, I use the antenae which may give me 2 channels on a good day.

Yes, I know there are people worse off than I and I spend a good deal of time working with them and for them, and it is volunteer, but am very limited in what I can do as often I am sick.

I must say I am surprised, surely there are more insensitive people than just "maniac" that would love to take a shot at someone who is down on their luck. Guess you wouldn't want to hear about the 74 year old lady I just picked up and took to her job, she can't drive as she just had a stroke 4 months ago, but she is back to work, bless her heart, cuz she needs to eat. And the other is she likes and wants to work as so many of us do. But still waiting for the self righteous. But for the grace of God go you.
