I have worked my entire life, from paper routes, baby sitting, lawn mowing, snow shoveling, menial jobs to rewarding career jobs. I am now disabled and have to live on the SSDI, which is from money I paid in during employment and is by no means anywhere near enough to live upon. I am the poorest of the poor and depend on some government assistance, grudingly as I want to work. It is very expensive to be poor. I decided to go back to school and be retrained. In the process and the massive amounts of paper work required to get assistance, I developed ulcers due to the incredible amount of stress. Have been in the hospital several times in last 2 years and finally got a part time job in May, but ulcers forced me back into hospital and in May, out of 20 days scheduled I was only able to work 5. Yesterday, as I stood in Walgreens to get medicine for ulcers,I called to confirm my July days I found out I had been removed from the schedule, due to days missed....

The internet connection costs $9 a month on my phone bill, and I use to keep in touch with doctors and out of the area family members, is it a luxury to have the ability to communicate especially to alert medical staff? And if it helps, I don't have cable tv, I use the antenae which may give me 2 channels on a good day.

I must say I am surprised, surely there are more insensitive people than just "maniac" that would love to take a shot at someone who is down on their luck. Guess you wouldn't want to hear about the 74 year old lady I just picked up and took to her job, she can't drive as she just had a stroke 4 months ago, but she is back to work, bless her heart, cuz she needs to eat. And the other is she likes and wants to work as so many of us do. But still waiting for the self righteous. But for the grace of God go you.

It sounds like you are one of the few that aren't abusing the system.. but many are.. And as far as how much you have paid in and what you are receiving now.. do you really think you have paid in more then you are getting back? Most get way more back then they ever paid in.. All people have to do is look at there pay stub to see just how much is taken out of there check and then look at how much you are getting monthly as a return... But it piss's me off to watch some lazy fat bum sit in his low income house, which is better then anything I can afford working 2 jobs, and driving a nicer car.. I know there are people that have disabilities.. but I've seen lot of people with disabilities find work as well.. just because you are disabled does not mean you are helpless and need the rest of the world to support you.. But that's the way many people think, and shoot.. the governments gonna give me free money.. why should I work then.. "nothing is free! it cost someone some where.."

What? Every 10 minutes you add something to this Question? I'm trying to get on assistance. Child support took away fiance's ability to work by removing his license - heck he lost a job, how can he pay w/o money. I am barely keeping up house payments on one salary - either pay bills or eat. I need assistance and most of America will find themselves there if these companies continue their greed.

Multi-tasking is the code word for slave labor: One person does the work of 4, getting paid the salary of 1/2 of 1 and gets the benefits of 1/4 of 1, can't retire until they are 140 and has the life expectancy of 89 (thanks to marvels in medicine), will probably have nervous breakdown, and die owing the state for past assistance.
