How can I add a cd writer to my pc? I already have a dvd player but cant burn discs on it.
I have looked inside and on the back of the dvd drive there is a power in connector, connections to the mother board and another lead that has a spare plug on the end of it!
Does that go into the cd writer?

USB External Burner or perhaps an internal one if your motherboard will support it. Check manufacturers website of your motherboard.

Find specificaitons using Everest or the like.

I too would recommend getting yourself a DVD burner (writer). They are roughly the same price as CD burners now. And you don't have to replace your DVD-Rom drive to add either a CD or DVD burner. You'll just have to make sure that the new burner is setup to be the master on that IDE channel, and the -Rom drive will need to be the slave. Just use a pair of tweezers to remove, and then replace the jumpers on the drives.

It depends on how you want to set up your new drive. You can connect them to the plug but you have to set up which of the two drives (DVD or CD-W) is the master and which is the slave. There should be some pins on the back of the two with plastic clips that sets this information. Remove the clips are replace them in the posstion that sets this up (refer to the drive guild should tell you this information)

Other options inculde exstral drive or replacing the DVD drive with a DVD/CD-R drive.
