Not Just Beckett, but where do you draw the line on sports earnings, this is part of the reason the average family can not afford to even go to a Red sox game. 30 million? come on, someone can live way above most and be very successful with 5 million over 3 years, but 30 million!!!???? that's crazy!! anyone agree sports players are OVERPAID ???

LOWER the ticket prices from over $100 each to $5 bucks! Lower the food costs in the park from $6.50 a beer to $ 2.00 Lower the cost of a ball park hot dog from $3.50 to $1. 50 and let the familys afford a game!

Yes!!! No one is worth that kind of money. No athlete is worth the money they get. How can the average fan relate to what these guys make??? It's impossible. It's a kids game....period.

They are all overpaid, but Beckett does deserve a 3 year contract. Hes only 26. I'm not disagreeing with you but if you lower the ticket prices that much, you will have to buy the tickets 3 years in advance because everybody would get them.

I think that everyone can agree that athletes are overpaid... However, if the teams couldn't afford it they wouldn't pay it, I don't begrudge them for it...
LOWER THE TICKET PRICES? Why, I know people don't want top hear it,but it is simple economics.. The Red Sox bang the place out every night, and people scalp those tickets for 2-3x face..You could make the arguement that in the Red Sox' case the tickets are too cheap, from a supply/demand standpoint.

Well, grading on a curve, that sounds about right. But I do agree that sports salaries in general have spun way out of control. I don't like paying $15 for a ticket, $20 for parking, $8 for a beer, etc. just to keep the baseball economy flowing. It ain't right.

It is the going rate for pitchers with more upside than downside.
He's 26, and in his first year of pitching in the American League, which is a WHOLE lot harder than pitching in the NL. Most NL pitchers have an adjustment period when they switch, so the ungodly HR numbers will drop as Beckett learns AL ball.
Good signing, in my opinion.

based on what other players are making, yes, i think its reasonable. in a year or two, hes going to be one of the best pitchers in the league. but ur right. if any of us got 10 million dollars, we'd be set for 3 lifetimes at least! baseball palyers are overpaid, as are all sports players

I think its reasonable, just like paying dipshit damon was ok with everyone.beckett is going to be a star, hes a great pitcher he just has learning to do.with schilling, timlin, wakefield helping him along, he will get better and better.you look at the yankee salary, then come back and ***** about becketts 3 year, 30 million contract.

yes, salaries and ticket prices are outrageous.
But as the the red sox, they made a good deal at (or perhaps below) market value (remember market value is what at least one other team is willing to pay) for Beckett.
