What is the cost range of a one or two carat diamond, by various commonly-used quality ratings and cuts?

Varies WIDELY. You can get in imperfect one depending on cut from about $800+ if you shop around. That price can go as high as into the tens of thousands ($18,000+) with flawless rare quality. The setting depends too if you're talking about a ring. Of course platinum will up the price too. This is based on my engagement ring shopping experience not really well versed, but usually become obsessed with things at least temporarily. I was a diamond researcher for 4 months there in 2004!!

It would depend on who you buy it from. Different jewelers have different qualities and cuts of diamonds.
