Because perfection is an ideal - it will always be pursuable because it will never be reached.

When our reachable goals are reached, what is left for us to do is to pursue ideals. Perfection is the optimization of all ideals.

A perfect thing would be:

1. Completely clear (have no internal confusion) and completely distinct (not be confusable with any other thing),

2. Completely coherent (have no internal conflicts) and completely compatible (not be in conflict with any other thing),

3. Numerically complete (lack no necessary parts) and completely simple (have no unnecessary parts).

Because man is stupid! ;-)

No, seriously: I think perfectionism is necessary for development. If we took everything the (imperfect) way it was we wouldn't ever invent anything new (and therefore we would never have developed into humans and stayed apes)

It is only personal accomplishment that drives people to be the best they can be. I have met many people who live life as "That's good enough". I do not force people to be perfect around me, but what I do I would like to be the best. Personal preference.

The true value of perfectness just lies in the process of its pursuing.

That his reach should exceed his grasp or what's a heaven for.

"You got to admit we're getting better, a little better all the time, it can't get no worse...."
