Many of our daily use tools are designed for right handed people only, or thinking they would be used by right handed only. So since the buttons are on the left , the right hand can be used to button or unbutton the shirt.
Just like scissors are also designed to be used by right handed only!!

If your shirt's buttons are on the left, then you are wearing clothing made for women.
Men's shirt's buttons are on the right half, and the side with button-holes on the left.
This was an arbitrary convention adopted by clothing manufacturers in England in the early 1800's to make it easier to distringuish between products made for men and women.

Buttons are usually on one side for males and another for females. I'd run to my closets to check which is which for you but trust me that's the general historical reason.
