Right now there is only one good chip type: Core duo. in a few months there will be another choice: Core duo 2. nobody has challenged them yet. They are very good cpus.
The proccesors available in laptops are: Intel Core duo, Intel pentium m, Intel celeron m, Amd ml and mt, and Amd sempron.
The slowest core duo has shown that it is faster that the fastest pentium m, celeron m, or Amd.
The GHZ of the cpu doesnt have much of a bearing on the actual performance anymore. My 1.66ghz t2300 core duo can beat my pentium 4 3.4ghz pretty soundly.
You will be happy with any core duo. I expect alot from my core duo and it does everything I ask it to do.
I had a pentium m 2.2ghz that cost $3000 two years ago and it cant compare to a core duo.
