No idea, but I'm getting it too....

Oh .... that happens when you clear your emails faster than it has been able to process it....i.e. sometimes you see the new emails before they even send out a prompt to you maybe becos it needs to scan the mails first... but you have already deleted of seen the email before it has finished with the scanning.
Thus you get the message even after the emails are not new.... you just have to wait till you re-open that email application the next time you log in, before it gets updated.

eh, error with new Yahoo homepage,
I have the same thing, It always shows me that i hav 7 mails,
but inbox is empty
