Hey Erri,
You know the thing is, had the draw gone differently, teams been in other groups, the result may be different. But it didn't and it's not. We are both intelligent enough to understand that any match played on another day would yield a different result and outcome. It comes down to who and how you play on a given day. There were a few teams that were worthy of the cup also, but I say also. As we know teams can and do play their way into a tournament. Germany had a team of young players that were quick and came to play football. But on the day experience was what let them down and one lapse in concentration saw Italy score two great goals. However Germany were capable. France were capable, that game went down to the wire. Argentina were capable. I would liked to have seen what they could achieve had they won their match. I guess what I am saying is other teams were capable and deserving but things just didn't go their way this time round. That's football. Sorry I didn't answer the question in the manner you requested but I hope you understand what it is I am saying. While many deserved it and many were capable of winning they didn't.

Argentina were unlucky not to get any further. the Germany -Argentina game was one of the best in the tournament, and I believe Argentina were the better team in that match. Had Argentina come out on top against Germany, they would've met Italy in the semifinal. It would have been another fascinating game between these two.
Spain too deserved better. France let everyone down in their group, which they should have won but they were well behind Switzerland. Spain should have met Switzerland, France should have been up against the Ukraine. Instead we got a Switzerland - Ukraine quarterfinal. Were you bored too? The France-Spain battle was much more interesting, but it should have been a semi, Spain were out of the tournament much too soon. The 3-1 scoreline also was flattered. I thought Spain was impressive throughout, and I fancied an Argentina vs Spain final. Just imagine the fireworks in that clash. Italy were deserved winners though, I think. They beat Germany fair and square, and in the final France were the better team for 50 minutes, Italy ruled the first 70.

If will only include teams inside the quarterfinals. Bad luck or not, if you dont make the quarterfinals you cant really be considered a contender (and to Aussie fans, I am sorry, but even if you had made the quarterfinals, you wouldn't have won). Ukraine, no offense, was probably the worst team in the quarterfinals. I thought Spain, Mexico, Ecuador, Holland, and Ghana were all better teams, but anyway, thats how the bracket worked out, and despite playing well against Italy (it was a lot closer than 3-0), they just didnt deserve to win. Now, Brazil and England, who were arguably the two biggest favorites coming in, didnt deserve to win because they just played very poorly, especially considering expectations. They got lots of luck, and when it ran out, they went out. Now Portugal, despite their good performance, just doesnt deserve to win because they couldnt score for over 6 halfs of football, plus extra time, an incredible 300 minutes, about 60 of they had a man advantage. France doesnt deserve to win because they had a poor group performance, and were a bit lucky against Spain (the winning goal game from a free kick given because of a Henry dive) and Portugal (that just isnt a penalty kick). Plus, as good as Riberee and those black guys are (I pulled the numbers, over half their team is black. I am not a racist, but but apart from Zidane, Ribere, and Barthez, its hard to find a guy who isnt black out there), without Zidane, they dont make the final. So now were down to Germany and Argentina. Now, I would love to say Germany, because I thought they played the best in the tournament, but in their semifinal, Italy beat them fair and square. Just because this was only Italy's second well played match didn't matter, they got the luck, not Germany, and won the game. Now, Argentina played a solid group stage (they werent trying too much against Holland), overcame Mexico in extra time, and just got a bit unlucky. Not only in losing their keeper, but in going to penalties. Penalties should never decide a match. I think if Argentina wins that game, they could have easily won the final, so I say that Argentina deserves the cup.

Germany should have won. Cause the German team played very, very good....and they didn't play dirty. Italy played dirty all the way to the final. They didn't deserve the world cup 2006....at least Germany finally found the way back to the flag...with in my eyes was very amazing. We finally can be proud again to be Germans.
We will definitely win the WC 2010...and the Europe cup 2008 as well. Italy will go down big time!!! In 2010 we will see who the better soccer team is.

I really thinl France or Germany should have won the Wc because France has only won the world cup once and italy has won it 3 times (and now its 4) so if France would have won at least people wouldnt be like oh italy won again. or oh Brazil won again and t would have been the best if zidane retired with the WC. and if Germany one then thta would have meant that they go there revenge from the last world cup. but seriously i hope that the next world cup has a winner that has never won the WC.

Germany or France is worthy of winning the cup more than Italy.
Germany -- young, aggressive, and plays together as a whole. With just two years of training with Klinsmann, who's not there constantly, they've trained themselves to be one of the best soccer team in the world. With their opening victory against Costa Rica (4-2) and other beautiful winning games until the quarter-final against Agrentina and its lost in semi-final against Italy-- which Germany lost within the last 5 minute of the game, everyone would say that it was an undeserving lost. The Germans proved to the world of their deserving spot for final instead of third place b/c on the semi-final day, many German players were injuried from its previous game against Argentina. Nevertheless, Germany will always be my winning team, no matter what.
France - half of the team were old veterans from the 1998 world cup. Esp. this team started off a bit shaky for their qualifying rounds, but, they started putting their passion and energy starting off round 16. With the case of France, they have Zidane, who uplifted France and Algeria up as a nation, and his team to win all the games until the Final. His Zidaneists was spread throughout the world. During the game against Brazil, Zidane was a player that outshined every star players on the field, which led his team into the semi-final and the final. For a record, he's the 34 year old, who announced the end of his international career after the World Cup, I believe everyone should give him and the French team the deserving team of WC 2006. (OK...I'm sorry if I blahed, b/c i have no idea what I'm saying half of the time...)
Italy -- wtfh?!!!!! they didn't deserve it. They are a bunch of cheating scumbages. They've cheated their way throughout the game. They LOVE LOVE doing fake fouls, dive, etc. (there's video tape about training how to fall, doing fake fouls, etc.) They couldn't even beat USA and Australia. Jesus christ, if you are a team that couldn't even take on those newbies, how can you possibiliy claim yourself as WORLD CHAMPIONS!!!?!!!??? Oh yeah, as for the final games. ITALian players are soo dirty. They attack all of the essential players of France. They got their way of injuirying Henry, Ribery, Vieria. and of course, Zidane was their number one target. They tried to hurt him with a chest pain, and then, there's the constant insult against Zidane that eventurally worked to get Zidane out of PK. What a bunch of soring losers!!! UNDERSERVING WC WINNER in the history of World Cup.
DEUTSCHLAND 2010!!! UND EURO 2008!!!

Fact is ITALY WON THE WORLD CUP. They out played the WORLD and thus took the cup home. Look what they did to Germany and how they won. Simply amazing. They were even down one goal in the Final (Unjust PK given to France) and still beat them. Australia had a MAN ADVANTAGE the whole SECOND HALF(by an UNJUST RED CARD) but we don't want to hear FACTS. You anti-Italians are just sore losers and burn with anger that Italy out played everyone.

Brazil. A team with such skilled players like Ronaldinho, Ronaldo, Kafu and Roberto Carlos do not deserve to lose.

Germany were unlucky not to have reached the final, I think they would have beaten the French in 90 mins. They played fast and attractive football, especially with young talented stars like Lucas Podolski and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

noone. italy deserved to win. throughout the whole tornament they played as a team and went through a lot of hardships (the scandal, friend falling out the window and in critical condition) but they didnt let that get to them. they used to for motivation and they won.
