Its expensive because of the effort, time and investment made after each game.

Aah, how mistaken you are.
A game like NFS Most Wanted has a team of 50 techies working on development and testing for close to 15 months to get it ready.
Then you have tons of money getting spent on marketing and margins for channel distributors / retailers.
Moreover, they'll have just 2-3 months to be able to recover the entire cost, so its not as cheap or easy as you think.
Another thing with games is that most games do not make enough money. Its the 80-20 rule. So they got to price it such that 1 game makes enough profits for 5 - like music albums!

Well its a good thing you dont want to steal them! Places BJ's and Coscos normally have games a little bit cheaper then the retail stores but those places require a membership if you dont already have one You next choice is just be patient PC game prices drop pretty fast compare to consoles Other then that keep an eye out for game sales

Well I make good money designing sound for them.
Trust me, it takes 1-4 years to make a video game, and a whole lot of money. Millions in fact.
Union actors and celebrities (minimum $800.00 a day.)
Directors ($1000.00 a day)
Producers.
Writers.
Artists.
Computer artists.
Computer programers.
Implementation.
Testers.
I think they are cheap for all the work that goes into them. If you wanna keep up the quality, then pay and don't steal!

You're paying for more than the game itself. You're paying for the development, marketing, and production of the game too. Everyone involved in the creation of that game depends on your money to create and produce more games. Everyone has to be paid. Pirated copies hurt the industry, thus making new games fewer and far between.

Actually it does take a lot of money and time and effort to make them... if u r toking abt reproduction of it on a CD/DVD yah of cos its cheap but the whole process of conceptualising the game, story line, technical stuff all has to be funded....
Its not as if elves create these games...
Usually if you can wait, these prices will go down considerably as the games get older.

same is true about most items. A pair of well know brand shoes that cost 100$ actually costs the company no more than 10$ to produce.

good games take of lot of human effort and that's why they are costly. you may get cheaper games on the net (free ones) but they won't be a match for the truly commercial ones.
