Consider what happened in Tehran 1979.
About a hundred US Embassy employees were held captive for a year and a half. During which time Jimmy Crater went EVEN to the Pope hat in hand asking for mediation. All futile.
A helicopter rescue operation ended disastrously.
Many suggested an ultimatum, like 70 hours, for surrender fo hostages to a neutral country, followed by "surgical strikes" on Iranian military facilites, which would have been EASY.
But no.
All hem and haw, and panties in a twist, while the enemy rubbed US nose in sand.
Deciveness is bloody and disturbing, but if you want to make an omelette you should accept that there will be broken shells to clean up.
How insensitive and cruel of me.

Israel is doing it for the safety of their people and to protect their land. Hezbolah is doing it to free their Holy Land from the Israel. When both make clashes, we can see that humanity is dead and has no value for the human life, either in Israel side or in Hezbolah's side. So, truly I can say I don't like what Israel and Hezbolah or any terrorist group does.
I wish to say that, I am an Indian national. The recent Mumbai bomb blast had killed hundreds of people by Pakistan supported terrorists, but Indian Governement has not any action against Pakistan other than canceling the Peace talks. I am not sure what will be the next step from our government in the future, but I wish it could not end in a war.

The United States is a sovereign nation and doesn't require permission from anyone to protect/defend it's people, land or interests.
If someone is punching you in the face do you wait for permission before fighting back?

They are defending themselves from terrorists. If they 'hold back', like Koffi Annen says they should, this will only allow Hezbollah to regroup and resupply and prepare for more attacks. Every time Israel has backed down it only brought more attacks against them. What if someone fired rockets at Miami from Cuba? Would America heed calls to 'settle down'? Hel, no! I cannot blame Israel for doing what they must to defend themselves. They can either continue to be attacked or try to crush the civilian militants (terrorists) who are doing the attacking. If the same thing happened to America, then yes, we should do as the Israelis have done.

I think if they take an American hostage, then behead them, we should take one of "theirs" and do the same thing.
