Alcoholism is a craving and is still there in reformed teetotallers. Therefore, the fact that you do it only at weekends does not preclude you from being an alcoholic. It also sounds like you could be what has recently been described as a Binge Drinker.
I also drink far too much when I go out, but never to the point where I black out!! I usually know that I've had enough (too much) when I am aware that I am slurring!
Lightheartedness aside, you really ought to seek help before you do something really stupid like injure/kill yourself or someone else in a drunken stupor.
I hope that helps.

Go to an AA meeting. You are probably under the assumption that your "not an alcoholic" because you only drink on the weekends. That is called "binge drinking" and yes, it is a form of alcoholism. Especially if you are drinking to the point of blacking out.
You can find an AA meeting literally anywhere in the US - just try a meeting. You don't have to say anything, you can just sit there and listen to other people talk about their addiction. I think you will be pleasantly surprised to learn that a of recovering alcholics can be really great people.

have a pint of water every second drink to start with. that ought to slow down getting black outs. perhaps try skipping the pub for a couple of weeks so as not to put yourself in the environment for a while. alcohol is a drug and those cravings will only go away after a couple of weeks.

I am being serious ----- what is there in your life that ya want to blank out? Ya can do it when ya work... I assume ya do from the 'weekend' comment .......
...so I think there is something that whenever ya have time to think, ya want to escape from. But. You can't escape, not for ever.
Maybe you can work it out for yourself. If not, perhaps some counselling would help? I don't think you are an alcoholic... unless you have been offered other drugs and turned them down cos ya prefer alcohol? You will know.
I think you are actually really strong but have had something traumatic happen???
Woteva, I really hope ya sort it

Reduce the amount of time you go out.Try drinking from home.Say buy a third of the quantity you normally buy when out there and make it a point that when its finished you don't buy anymore. After a while you will get used to the idea and realise that drinking is not about drinking yourself silly but about enjoying yourself.

Get a grip. Start by going out later. Make sure you have eated well before you go out. Limit your intake! We all get pi**ed at times but you should have reached a stage by which you can recongise that 'this' drink should be your last! Have that one and switch to water. Or go for a curry or anything. Take it easy!
