could be your monitor has blown,or it could just be the monitors fuse is dead,or the most likely is a power supply problem,u may need to also check your ram and video card

It may be a power supply or a monitor problem but before I run out and buy a new monitor try something very simple first. It worked for my friend. We recently had a lot of electrical storms in our area. if you have your computer connected to a surge suppressor, turn off the suppressor first, then unplug your computer from the suppressor. Wait a few minutes before replugging and turning the surge suppressor back on. I am not guaranteeing that this is going to work, but it's worth a try.

Disconnect the monitor from the cpu video output and switch on the monitor. if the same thing happens then there is a problem in ur monitor on the other hand if there is some display then it means that the problem is with ur graphics card or the BIOS

All of the answers so far have been good.

The only thing I can add is that I have a problem with one of my monitors. The plug has, for lack of a better word, worn down a little.

When I hook this monitor to my computer, I have to wiggle and tighten the little thumb screws a little bit tighter than my other monitors.

It could be a problem with the cable from the monitor to the PC or a problem with your video card. Basically your monitor is not receiving a signal from your card so it stays in standby. Try a different monitor if possible to determine if it is the video card.

If your hard drive spins up that means your motherboard is switching the power supply on. When you push the on button do you hear that?
Your graphics card could be dead. Your motherboard or processor could be fried. If your hard drive doesn't even turn on then it could be your power supply.
