O-levels ceased to be the legal exams in 1987/88, they were replaced by GCSEs in the 1988/89 Academic Year.
Subjects that are ESSENTIAL (you have no control over) are:-
English Literature AND Language
Mathematics
A Language
2 Science subjects
A Humanities subject (Geography, History, RE)
A Art based subject (Art, Music, Drama, Textiles, CDT)
Your school will advise you on 1 or 2 other subjects that they want the students to take.

They are called GCSE's. Are you thinking ahead? You should have chosen them by now if you're already in year nine. If you're going into year nine then don't worry, your school should help you. There will be compulsory subjects. English, Maths, Science (double award) and Foreign Language are usually the minimum you can do under normal circumstances. On top of this, you usually get to choose out of a list. Unless you have extremely specific ideas about your future career, such as a vet or dr, choose subjects you enjoy. This way you will always have a lesson you can look forward to. A word of warning, I choose to do art and design tech, not because I thought it would be easy but because I liked them, and the work load was huge. I would recommend only doing one of those two.

Always do Maths English and a foreign language of some description . Do subjects you enjoy not just subjects that people expect you to take I was told I had to do Physics and Geography because they were solid subjects that would be great for any job-I hated them so I switched off in class. If you enjoy subjects you work harder understandable really.Computers are essential though nowadays -good luck

Chemistry is a might desire to! yet another technological know-how would be mandatory for many institutions too, physics is a good determination as Biology isn't seen a organic technological know-how in some institutions. ( you may locate this unusual yet there's a special prejudice against a point biology in maximum uni's. It features a good sort of beside the point cloth for drugs.) On suitable of those 2, maths may well be a good determination, yet maximum educational matters are ordinary. do exactly not take media study / wide-unfold study. choose for something like historic past/maths. this might get you into the 'possibly' classification, in case you go with to fairly push for it do lots of proper community artwork ( at NHS trusts and so on) and get as lots stuff to placed on your utility as conceivable.
