When I come home from work there's a strange smell in my lounge, I have a dog but he's not allowed in there. My house is immaculate but I can't detect where it's coming from. Any ideas of how to get rid of it? I've shampooed the carpets etc, tried Oust, Shake and Vac and general air fresheners but it comes back.

If you have floorboards then it could be a dead mouse/rat underneath.
Same thing happened in my house. I had an unknown smell for about four days that i followed to a spot underneath the floorboards containing a maggot filled rat.
I fished him out and threw him over into my neighbours garden for revenge after their cat had defecated everywhere on my new lawn.
I hope this helps!

Hve you looked under your sofas, you could have a dead mouse there. If you have shampoo'd the carpet and didnt air the living room out the carpet could have a dry damp smell. You need to shampoo it again and leave the windows and doors open to let it dry in the fresh air. It could also be that under the floorboards or in the wall there could be dead rodents.

the same thing happened in my house. It turned out that something died in the wall, and the smell permeated the entire house. It was awful!! We spent $600 on Ionic breezes for every room, plus another $150 on an exterminator (who couldn't find it...) before we finally had to just wait for the smell to go away. The only advice I can give you is to try to keep it as cool in your house as possible. Heat will only make the smell worse. Good luck, man.

It depends on what the odor smells like. It could be mildew from a water leak somewhere, or it could be from furniture, appliances, etc. If you do find where it is coming from, try a mixture of water and bleach in a spray bottle, or Lysol.

If you have a bricked up fireplace it is possible that a dead bird is in the void full of maggots. My friend in England had this problem and had to have part of the wall removed to remove tbe dead bird. Hope this helps.
