Please do not be offended by my curiosity as it is not my intention to offend you but i was reading a book to my kids the other night and the question arose about when a man with a beard eats. When we get food on our mouths we are able to wipe our mouths so is it not harder for you to keep your beard free from food when you are eating and what do you do when you are eating out and you get food in your beard? Also do you use shampoo on your beard or soap? My kids kept asking me these questions and i have to say i have been thinking about it myself since. Please do not be offended by this question as i am just wondering.

I often wear a beard, but normally keep it tightly groomed. I have, in the past gotten "stuff" caught in it. They usually have small combs men carry around to keep beards clean. As far as cleaning... beards wil actually turn soft if you use regular soap as opposed to a shampoo, but you can get shampoo for your beard..

*chuckle* Must admit, kind of an odd question though

No offence taken.... All men originally had beards and the art of shaving was not discovered.Eventhough so many pros and cones can be told about growing a beard, at best they are individual tastes. A good beard needs good maintenance. There is no problem in eating habits with a full beard as in and around your lips, the hairs are not there.. Just like washing your hands, you can also rinse and clean your beard after each food.

But the problem is that most of the people who grows full beard tend to be a little lazy( the main reason for growing beard is to avoid the regula routine of shaving!!!!???) and tend not to care about the hair growth!! And just like improperly maintained hair, this can result in you becoming unhygienic!!
In India, the sikh community has a religious fervor which prohibits them from cutting off any hair in the body and thats why they comb the hair and wear turbans( the peculiar cap)

I have had a full beard for some thirty years and not found it a problem. It is about the only thing my wife has never complained about. I keep it tidy and trim with scissors any hairs close to the lips. Drips of honey or yoghurt can be a nuisance but are easily washed off with a face flannel and soap. I mostly wash it with soap, but it gets some fallout from shampooing the hair as do my pubes.

No problem. I have beard for more than 23 years. One has to be careful while eating. Over the years one gains experience. In the event food gets in your beard and cannot be removed with a towel, use a brush or a comb.

Shampooing beard is good. Adds lustre.

My partner has a beard, had one for over 25 years now! When younger he kept it long and ended up with skin problems so he was told to trim it regularly and he does, does so once a week and it is good because too short for foodstuff to get stuck in it. It's cleaner and the onloy way in which i will ever allow him to keep it as i have enough allergies to suffer without taking anymore because of a dirty beard!

But you're right to question this because i have memories of a tramp who sued to sit outside the bus station and you could find bits of food stuck in his beard. it was disgusting! Talk about breeding ground for germs!!!

I have had a beard from time to time, It was rare for food to get caught in it.
I usually just wash it with the same soap that I wash the rest of my face with

Food doesn't get stuck sometimes crumbs.

As for washing it is simple and the hair is tougher then air on your head and doesn't need much shampooing but it doesn't hurt.

I'm a neat person so I usually don't get that much trouble with it but cold snowy days form ice crsytal and can break the hair. Especially if I use a scarf.

It is more difficult to keep a beard clean than a clean shaved mouth, but not entirely difficult. If you just shampoo as often as you shampoo your normal hair, that works fine for me.
