why do Filipinos love wearing braces (and say it's cool) when in fact it isn't when you go abroad especially in the US?
They find it geeky.

I've been away from the Philippines for so long that when I see young Filipino girls here, I noticed some of them wear braces and with colours too like neon pink and green.
well, for some, they do wear braces because its to correct teeth alignment.
For others and I agree with the first response, its a sign of social status. I knew one who doesnt have serious gaps or protruded teeth wear braces to show off.

No I on no account had them, did not might desire to.My first cousin had them for just about 3 years. Her enamel have been protruding out ;yet after braces now she has very captivating smile and her enamel are nicely in the back of her closed lips.

I don't know but when i got them in grade 5, i thought it was cool cause i was the first one to get them and no one else got them yet...cause people normally get them around grade 7. and thats how people reacted to my braces...they would come to me to ask about it before getting them. another thing i found cool was the different colours for the braces lol, some guys like it cause i've been told, but when i got to like grade 7, i thot they were geeky too

It is SO expensive to have braces (we're not talking about those wiry retainers). And, Filipinos know that it really does make your teeth look better. Great investment on my part.

I find braces to be cute in attractiveness on many women, regardless of where they are from in the world.

Braces are used to align the distorted teeth and not for ornamentals.

Yes, it should be for correcting disaligned teeth. But you know Pinoys, especially the kids. They are so impressionable.

coz in the Philippines not everybody can afford it. and for me it looks cute. i also want to have it now.and for the fact that after that you will have a beautiful and properly a lined teeth!

Maybe because it's a sign of prestige over there and almost everyone could afford them if they tried? Or maybe because they can't afford them and they're jealous? Who knows?

its not cool...... you wear brace because you need to.... and it's painful because they'll make it tighter and tighter everyweek...... and you can only eat soft foods and soup.......
