Does racism on the Internet have a different impact or "feel" than racism encountered in society or the "real world"? Some have said that societal racism is covert now, no one says it to your face, but the Internet allows more overt forms due to anonymity. Is this true? Does it affect you more, bother you more, or is it better because at least you know what you are dealing with?

Yes, I think it's different because it's just more blatant. People can say what they feel because it's not face-to-face. Maybe in the long run it will turn out to be a good thing (No, No, don't scream!!) I mean, if it gets the poison out of their systems, so long as the rest of us don't get sucked in.(and I say that as a member of a group who get a ton of abuse thrown at us, but fortunately we can see what the abusers are saying about THEMSELVES!) (self-disgust)

Actually, to me it's quite different when a complete stranger over the Internet, calls me a racial slur, it really gets on my nerves. See the thing is that you don't know me well enough to call me such derogatory names over the Internet, and plus it's just cowardice. And if someone did call me a racial slur face to face i could hit them, but fighting never solves problems, so a civil suit would have to do.

I don't judge the color of people's skin or the color of their avatar. (c:

Update: I don't think bigots just speak out on the internet, and then hide it to your face. I think cowardly, hateful people with low sets of morals like to lash out on the internet. That being bigots of all colors, homophobes, pedophiles, adulterers, and other perverts. Something about this forum brings out the worst in people, and I think others just like to say crazy stuff to stir people up. There are racists among all races, and haters will be haters, you cannot convince them otherwise. Most racist people I know are very negative in general (complainers, grudge holders, and people who always pity themselves).

being a black person, i think whites are generally respectful and really mind their own business. i have a good relationship with my lecturers who are mostly white. but when i read whats posted on the internet, i cant help feeling a lot of white folks really just pretend in the real world just to come on the internet and reveal their true self.

Racism is racism, at least on the internet it's easier to get away from.

Oh course it does cause you are dealing with one soul to another in person or on the internet... in fact I think it is worse on the internet casue you cannot see the person who is doing it and also you are dealing more in your own mind which is worse I think because you cannot really deal with the other person.. but that is just my opinion.. I welcome yours

Nope. Hatred is hatred. Just because you do it anonymously doesn't make it right.

there's enough people now that aren't racist now so we can all gang up and laugh at people who are racist -
