I am a reptile nut.
I would have never gone against my father's wishes about bringing a reptile into his house. That is just not right.
Now that you have the snake, try to convince your father that the snake is a safe pet & you want to keep him & you will be a responisble pet owner.
If you can not change his mind & you are not ready to move out, try to find a new owner, a friend or somebody else to buy him. Can you take him back for a refund? Giving it to a reptile rescue group is also an option.
Always consult your parents BEFORE you purchase a pet!

I see where you are coming from. As was mentioned, try to sit down and talk to your father about the situation at hand. If this doesn;t work your options are limited. Risking the snakes life by keeping it outside all winter is a very selfish act and displays no compassion for the animal I agree with what somebody else said. See if a friend can take care of it while you save money over the winter. At worst you may have to give it up for adoption. I know you want the sanke but trying to keep it outside in the winter is a selfish act that would show no compassion for the snake. There are always plenty of people looking to adopt snakes that can no longer be taken care of and there are always corn snakes around that you can buy when you are in the right situation. I do not know where you are locate but here is a site that will list tons of adoption agencies. http://www.kingsnake.com/adoption.html If you end up getting rid of your corn, consider these adoption agencies when you choose to get another snake, you could be saving a snakes life.

You are right, if you want to keep the snake it has to come inside of the house. You need to explain to your father that having these pets is what makes you happy. Also make sure he knows that a corn snake is very easy to take care of once you get the temperature of the enclosure just right. It doesn't take up very much space and you only have to feed him about once a week.
I hope that your father realizes that it isn't that big of an issue and lets you keep him inside. Even now during the summer time the snake could get a respiratory infection from the big temperature change from day to night. Good luck.

Believe it or not, snakes have stayed outside during the winter for millions of years. Corn snakes are native to Florida and live outside 24/7 all year long. I don't know what you're worried about. The biggest danger you have is the tank you have him in can get too hot too quickly in direct or even indirect sunlight. You must be very careful not to kill your snake by overheating.

If you want to have a pet, YOU have to take responsibility for it's life, not convince your dad to let it into the house. It is not your Dad's pet. So, before winter comes, you need to get yourself into a place where your pet will be safe, or possibly convince your Dad you are responsible enough to have the snake in his house. You have already behaved irresponsibly by getting the snake without having a secure winter habitat for it. It is not your Dad's or the snake's problem, it is your problem. Good luck to your snake, and you, too.

Why didn't you just wait until you moved out to get it? Maybe he will change his mind once he sees that you take care of it but... at this point, I would have to say that you are quite the dumbass. You love animals, but you got one that is going to be in a potentially deadly position, just because you were too stupid to think before acting.

You need to break down and have a long talk with your dad. Explain to him how much this pet means to you and how easy they are to care for. He should be understanding and will appreciate your honesty. If you need any help with care just e-mail me at wendi_just_me@yahoo.com I am a reptile expert.

Why did you get it in the first place???? That's really really stupid. You take it to the nearest pet sanctuary, as it's obvious what's going to happen if you don't.
