Auto industry is a profit oriented business, the Military is not.

Better question: Why do members of Congress get better health care and retirement than members of the military. Easy answer, because they are able to vote for it... usually they do so in the middle of the night... coming out in the dark to feed, like cockroaches.

The "troops" part of the question is inaccurate, because active duty military get some of the best medical care available in the world.

Retirees benefits are getting cut across the board, both private and public sectors. And last time I checked, HMOs weren't exactly the best health care in the world.

Because the heads of the auto industries care more about their workers than or government does about our troops.

Because it's called BRIBERY. In my opinion, you have to "bribe" someone to work in those conditions. Whereas, more soldiers volunteer to do their job than an auto worker would. Make sense?
