It's a great thing. I know three languages besides my native, one, and I read with ease on two of them (I still have some reading to do in French before it becomes easy); I love it.
That way I can communicate with a lot more people; and I can read the great books in original (and about a third of the charm of a really good book is lost even in a great translation; in a mediocre translation... I can give up on the book entirely).

I say learning foreign languages is the best way to learn more about the world, and that is a good thing. I love it.

I think if one can, they should go ahead and learn, It opens many, many doors of opportunities for you worldwide, and gives you a wider understanding of people too.If the language barrier is knocked down around the world, there would be less problems because of more understanding. I speak from personal experience. I know more than one language, fluent in two. I live in a multicultural environment. I wish so much I have the time to learn other languages, it would be easy for me as I have the will to learn.

I think by learning a foreign language you better understand the English language since so much of what we speak is a "melting pot" I think it also gives you the chance to understand how much really is lost in translation, and better understand the cultures around you.

It's a smart thing to do because you could get good paying jobs as a translator if you become fluent in that language. Any job where they deal with people of different ethnicities is going to look at your language skills as a plus and you have a better chance of getting that job.

I think it's terrible the way english speaking people( and I'm one of them) can't be bothered to learn another language. Even when they go abroad they rely on foreigners to be able to speak to them in Engish. I'm as guilty as the next person.

You will be able to hear and read what others have to say! Then you will find out that everyone in your mother tongue does not have all the real/best answers!
