Windows provides a fax service provided you have a modem and have it connected to a working phone line. To set this up in Windows XP, go to:

Start > Printers and Faxes.

On the left hand side of the window you should see a box titled Printer Tasks. Underneath that box there should be a link labeled "Set up Fax". Click on that, go through the wizard to setup your modem and fax settings to your liking. Once that is setup, you will have a virtual printer on your computer entitled "Fax". To send a fax, all you have to do is print a document to the Fax printer. Then, a wizard will pop up and guide you through the process for sending a fax. Hope this helps!

All you require for faxing from your pc is a functioning modem and a fax program which you can find at any computer store. You can sometimes even get a free faxing program online. Try google. :)
