I'm just not understanding how there can be so many ignorant people in the world in this day and age. I've read so many questions and answers on yahoo (i'm a night owl); it's ridiculous. I read one person saying that blacks should be sent back to Africa in a boat with a hole in the bottom.....it's ridiculous. And at the same time, it's funny, because I think of all the things that America would not have right now, or the advances that America would not have made, had it NOT been for the blacks and asians and hispanics that are in this country right now. And no, I'm not talking about fried chicken or lo mein or tacos. I also look at the fact that a lot of the things that we have right now, we wouldn't have had it not been for whites. I was raised in a household where everybody was equal, and that was it. I find that remarkable given the fact that my mother lived through Jim Crow and saw MLK and had an uncle that worked on the Malcolm X murder. So, I ask you, why are people so ignorant?

Misspelling rampant does not make me ignorant. It means I made a spelling error. There isn't a single person in the world that hasn't made a spelling error at one point in time. But thanks to all the people that gave thoughtful answers.

Secondly, if you do not have a THOUGHTFUL answer to contribute, please do not waste my time and yours with silly answers. I'm sure being immature is the bane of your existence, but there is absolutely no need to bring your silliness here; if people want to be prejudiced and discriminate, they should do it against stupid, immature people instead of against other races, ethnicities and cultures, or other groups of people. Racism is just childish. It is a prevalence of ignorance in the highest degree. And while all these racist people are sitting around complaining, the same people that they are discriminating about are passing them by. I think racism is just a crutch that people sometimes use so that they do not have to take responsibility for themselves and their actions.

My 2 degrees and 2 minors say that I'm not ignorant. Ignorance is not a spelling error; ignorance is focusing on a spelling error when there is a more relevant social problem that was asked to be commented on. This is most likely because you are not able to grasp the complexities and depth of this issue and choose to keep your brain down at a level that it can comprehend, hence commenting on my 1 spelling error instead of commenting on the issue. Get a life.

I agree that there does seem to be a great deal of misinformation floating around these days, but I don't think "these days" are any different from "those days" in that regard. There have always been ignorant people looking to debase, diminish, or disregard the accomplishments of others... that will never change. The internet just provides anonymity for intellectual cowards.

I agree. I think people as a whole need to think before they speak. That means all races. The same persons that made that statement about us going back to Africa must have come up with that idea while he was sitting at a signal light invented by a black man. The only group of people with the right to tell anyone to go home is the American Indian!! We are all tress passing on their land. Yet that haven't said anything. Not one Indian clan rally have we seen televised. Not one Indian march on Washington.
So the next time any race opens their mouth in hate do yourself a favor and grow a brain!!

Nobody reads or studies.
We are all used to being delivered information though television, teachers and parents. (Given teachers know more of what they are talking about, their answers may not always be "correct")
People are often told what they know by people who don't know everything about the subject.
Not enough people question deeper into a topic.
If they were to they would find that this one person does not know all the answers, I may have to search elsewhere.
Many people don't bother to search elsewhere. So they take what they are told and leave it alone.
People are so ignorant because people don't bother to farther question and research.

Because this is a forum that allows anonymity. Anyone can say anything and relatively little will happen. At worst their account is shut off and they will have to make another. That doesn't exactly explain why people want to say those things though. I guess it is to get a rise out of others. Who hasn't wanted to just piss people off at one point or another. Being racist isn't the way to go in my book, but it will sure as hell make people mad.

I'm right with you on this one!
I think people who are ignorant just consider themselves superior to other races. I mean, they THINK their world would be better with just the 'best' race in one place. As you and I know that is stupid! Mixing races gives a chance to broaden our horizons and see beyond our homeland and own self. If someone wants all whites in one place and be narrow - minded and pigheaded, I'm all against them!!!!!

Read the book: The End of Racism, by Dinesh D'souza. That will make you feel better, and it is rampant, not rampid.
