There there was a survey done in the USA with 100,000 women. They were asked who would you prefer to have, a pet or your husband? 78% chose the pet over the husband. I'm guessing that's where the term "Sleeping in the dog house" is used for husbands in trouble with their wife. (^.~)
For your question: A pet is lighter to carry around, lighter to place in your lap, unconditionally loves you 24/7, has adorable eyes and the best part is that they don't scare away people. Unlike a husband.

Because they cannot carry their hubbies in their laps..and the hubbies have very little time for them
Rich hubbies are very busy and smart and as a result spend less time with their wives compared to their poorer counterparts.

Being rich has absolutely nothing to do with it. But rather the unlimited, unconditional love that only a pet offers. There is NO human to match that warmth.
