Because people have a tendancy to be judgemental regarding non-traditional social ideas. People are resistant to change.
A couple decades ago it was considered a HUGE taboo for a man to have a single ear pierced. Today, that same pierced ear would hardly raise a single eyebrow.
Try to understand the nature of people to shy away from anything that opposes what they consider social norms, and a direct reflection of their own values. Do your own thing! If you enjoy it as a way to express yourself, then do so and forget about the naysayers who lack the open mind to accept others for who they are.

The one thing you have to know is that people do judge, your boss, your teachers, your friends. I'm not saying it's right, but it happens. Be yourself, but just know that not everyone will be comfortable with showing who you really are.
Someday you may have that job interview, and believe it or not, not everyone thinks piercings are becoming of a lady. I'm not saying it's right, but it happens.

People judge you because they are close minded. I remember when tatoo's were so.....unexcepted....now they are everywhere you look...on all kinds of different people. But, I do believe that there is a time and place to wear your piercings... School, and the workplace ....not such a hot idea

Will you really feel the same way when youre 20, 30, 40, .....80? Will you still want your piercings then? Thats why I disagree with PERMANANT body modifications........when youre a grandma with nasty tattoos and piercings.....it wont be cool or pretty.

I don't think it is a way to express yourself, I think it is a way of conforming to peer pressure.
People do judge, and they usually judge more harshly things that people do to themselves that are unattractive, disfiguring, or just plain disgusting.
There are other ways to express yourself that don't include disfiguring and disrespecting your sacred body.

Most of the time people will think badly of people with peircings cause the world of today has people with peircings, tattos, wear black, ect. seem like bad people. When really they are really nice people once you get to know them.

Because the majority of young kids just do it to "fit in". And it's usually the bad crowd that they fit into with it. Like "goth" kids, trying to be rebels. It's called trying too hard.

It's because they look trashy. There are plenty of other ways to look trashy, and they get the same general response. While it is a way to express yourself, it expresses yourself as trashy, and that tends to repel people.
