Why would you ask a question with such an OBVIOUS answer?

But I'll answer it, seriously - to share the experience. They know you know, but they want to connect with you, even if there's nothing to say. It's almost never the case that they state the obvious in order to pass along the literal information.

I love this question. This has annoyed me to no end. Most people do it just because they like to hear themselves talk. Most of the time they are ignorant and cannot come up with an original thought so they reach for whatever is easiest, the obvious. Others, still being ignorant, are so behind in the conversation that they are lost, so stating the obvious makes the conversation go into reverse so they can catch up. I am faced with this calamity on a daily basis with co-workers and customers. I constantly find myself being annoyed with slow minded people that love mindless chatter, also know as bull-shi_tting. There is where the obvious flies around rampantly. Maybe there should be some sort of law for stupid people that state the obvious repeatedly, like tongue removal for the first offense. Thanks for the question.

To gauge whether your emotions towards a subject are the same as theirs.

ie. Fireworks show.

Person A. Wow..Did you see that?

Person B. Yeah. That was awesome.

Person C. No I missed it I was looking at the seagulls.

Person C, obviously has little regard for person A or dislikes fireworks shows or loves seagulls.

Hence don't invite person C to anything ever again.

well.. because if it's obvious they feel more comfortable talking about the subject knowing they are certain they are right. On the other hand what can be very obvious to you might be a puzzle to someone else.

Well, obviously, because it doesn't require a lot of thinking, which can make one's head hurt.

Because they think others are too stupid to see it. It makes them feel better about themselves.
