This is a loaded question... I don't call anyone racist unless I know for a fact they have:
1. discriminated against specific groups of people
2. intentionally tried to destroy others because of their appearance.
3. actively participated within other groups of people that are known to be racist.

The word has a lot of hatred associated with it... be careful how you use it. I've seen many good people improperly labeled as a racist because someone didn't understand the implications of that word - consequently, people who tend to throw this word around usually have a shaky or suspect character.

first of all, i would not physically call someone a racist unless he were committing some violent or quasi-violent act upon a minority...and then i would get physically involved. to call a person racist as the question is posed...yes. I live in los angeles which has more mexican than non-mexican people, legal and illegal. l.a.'s mayor, a third generation legal usa citizen of mexican extraction refers to the illegal aliens as "we" and "our" and "us" when addressing them. From experience of watching the mexican flag being waved in the street at every possible excuse, I would say the wavers are mexican, consider themselves mexican, and their primary allegiance is to mexico...regardless of the generations of legality that precede them today....so a mexican is a mexican and not racist per se....just as an Irishman is an Irishman, etc. But, in my opinion, if you come to my country, you learn my language for your own protection as well from unscrupulous people who would abuse and misuse you, you adapt to our custums while being proud of your own heritage and celebrating it without challenging the culture and society that is allowing you to live among them.
the black lawn jockey is definitely a racist symbol today, and only a very rabid racist or a very ignorant person would post it in their front yard, for example. As black lawn jockeys are antiques these days, having one does not necessarily make one a racist......displaying it prominently might well do so.
dumb questions seem to be the major ones posted on here.....very disappointing.

I'd wonder. Definitely not an American and don't respect American customs. The lawn jockey could be an antique.

why would you need to call them anything? maybe the owners are mexican and are proudly displaying the flag, and those little lawn jockeys are a very traditional yoard ornament- you can find them anywhere. i doubt they are a symbol of anything. why are you seeming to be so judgmental?

Nope, but it would look a bit silly. Especially if it were on fire. Well, not the lawn jockey... that would be a bit violent.

I would have just thought that they had 'really' bad taste in front yard decoration. How crass. Did they also have a pink plastic flamingo?
