not only riding the bust but walking or riding a bike will help the situation however, the price of gas will not go down for the period of time you are expecting, not only would public transportation take longer then it does, also it would mean that the citys would have to buy more busses to fit the more people and with the price of a bus ($800,000 or more,) it wouldnt be economical to do so, if anything people should use wind turbines to create the power for your electric car, however thats still a few years away where we will be able to use an eletric car that goes as far as we need it, thats why gas cars are still so popular is because of the distance that they can go, and they are easly filled up at stations all accross the world, however there are not meny electricty stations for cars to charge up,

People don't like to give up their freedom of choice. On a bus they can't start and stop when they choose, change their route or time. People don't like the fact that the bus driver is in charge of their schedule . People don't like to be thrown amongst other people that they don't normally associate with; ie; the homeless and lower income groups and those folks that don't bathe frequently and have body oder.

in my town, the bus only runs every hour, with 2 routes running every half hour. it takes me 2 hours to go from my house to work by the bus, but only 15 minutes by car. i agree it's cheaper to ride the bus, but come on. two hours before I have to stand on my feet all day?

They're not clean, not safe, not staffed by professionals because they get low pay, and aren't readily available in rual areas. As well as the fact that Americans are individualistic in their nature anyway...they like to drive their own dam.n cars and leave when they want, go home when they want and not rely on anyone else.

society is IMPOSSIBLE to influence from within. people must be herded in masses.
independent thinkers, like you and myself, will use the bus and laugh when we see people burning gas in their suv's.
