I'd start the anti-idiocy cult.
It would require all idiots consume massive amounts of LSD/PCP in a large stadium sized room until they croaked for the benefit of mankind.

The Slacker's Cult. You'd go to church twice a year and only put a few dollars in the collection plate. You wouldn't have any specific beliefs, but would be taught to be tolerant. Oh, wait, it's been done. They're called Anglicans.

If you are looking for suggestions, you may be interested in the Encyclopedia of American Religions. They have listed over 2500 active churches and religions in America.
What is clear from reading this book is that it's pretty much all been done. There are very few really original variations left.
Which begs the question, Who is God? Are there really thousands of pathways to the same thing? Or are they all scams? Hmmmm...
