I had a physical about 12 years ago and was asked when my tonsils were removed. I said they hadn't been and the doctor was like "well they have been". I informed her that I knew they hadn't as I had terrible tonsillitis growing up, usually taking double courses of AB's. She then was like "wow, I have read about this" apparently some people who suffer awfully with their tonsils can have this auto tonsillectomy thing occur, it's apparently rare but does happen. I am 42 and tonsillectomies were not in fashion when I was a child, apparently it was better to put up with it! I am glad to read that it's not just me!!!

I did not experience that but i know someone who did.Well..tonsils are just like our lymph nodes which helps in our body defenses. So when the doctors needs to removed it, have it then. Besides they won't advise you to do that if it isn't critically needed. The one I knew had this recurrent strep infection ( causing his sore throat ) that why the doctors have to remove his tonsils. Well it is not that bad afterwards. He can do the same normal things, eat the usual foods.Hope this helps.

Though this hasn't happened to me personally, I had a family member whose MD told her that her tonsils had literally rotted away from years of infection.
So chances are they have just disintegrated. No worries.

Yes it is a medical fact that as the older you get, your tonsils will atrophy. This is news but not new news.

I have not heard them disappear like that, they will be there inside, you should check properly, tonsils can never disappear. if you have cold, it might come back,
