My son is still breastfeeding and he started eating solids 10 months ago. The problem is that he doesn't want to drink any formula milk. I'm worried that he will not be getting the milk nutrients once he stop breastfeeding later on. Help me?

A baby who is past his first birthday doesn't need formula. You can give him plain (full-fat) milk instead. There's also no reason for him to stop nursing at any time in the near future--the World Health Organization recommends nursing for *at least* 2 years.

I wouldnt even be giving my child formula if he/she is 16months old. At 12 months they are old enough to drink cows milk/store milk. I would give him whole milk (vitamin D).That way he is still getting the fatty part. I have a 9 month and she has been eating solids since she was like 6 months old.I started feeding her food at like 4-5 months but now she eats about everything except milk cause I wait till 12 months.

PLus honey- you could be saving some serious money by putting your baby on cows milk. Formula is expensive. Get that boy on regular milk.He will be fine. Its time , he is old emough.

Try it and let me know.

At 16 months your son has absolutely NO reason to be drinking formula. None what so ever. Start weaning him to drink cows milk. Assuming he is a good eater, he is getting his nutrients from the variety of foods he is eating while being supplemented with breastmilk.

Normally by 16 months, the child should be off the breast feeding and start eating solid foods. He also doesn't need to be on formula milk as well. Try giving him whole milk or even chocolate milk to see if he likes it.

Give him whole milk. My wife never breastfed, and we gave our baby formula for the first year, then whole milk until about age 2. At age 2 we then went to 2%, and now that she's 3 years old she drinks 1%. The most important time to be worrying about this is in the first 2 years. If your baby is not drinking formula, then he should be drinking whole milk. It will be just fine. This is what our doctor, and my brother- and sister-in-law (both pediatricians) recommended.

I think that by 16 months he can drink regular cows milk - ask your doctor. Also, I think that by 16 months the amount of nutrients from breastfeeding is minimal - it's most important during the first few months for antibodies and such.

He is old enough for cow's milk or soy milk or whatever he can tolerate when you stop b/feeding. A few cups or bottles of milk a day, some cheese, some yoghurt and his fruit/veg/meat/cereal is all he needs now..not baby formula. Fantastic effort keeping the b/feeding going that long though..good for you!

Have you tried regular cow's milk? He's old enough to drink whole milk now...try that.

Are you giving him formula, breast milk, and solids? That is too much!! Babies don't need formula after 12 months, they should be drinking regular milk.

once your child is on solid foods, he should be getting nutrients form that. give him whole milk, not formula, it tastes awful when a child learns new tastes. If you are truly worried about his nutrients and the vitamens he should be getting then purrey his food in a food processor.Like vegetables and fruits. That is what we did with my daughter, home made baby food. She loves all kinds of food now

At 16 months old, He don't need formula.....That age he can go right to our milk......If he's still breast feeding, thats all the milk he needs.....forget the formula..........He will get enough nutrients from you and his food......
