I think they agree on the idea that violators should be punished. Conservatives want to punish anyone having more fun than them, by making what ever they are doing illegal. Liberals want to punish anyone who has more than they do. They would prefer to take it away and give it to themselves, but if that fails they are more than happy just to see that it gets taken away.

Both groups you mention agree that some authority has to be placed over your daily activites. Their only point of contention is which one of them gets to tell everyone else what to do.

They are both inconsistent. Conservatives say they are for free enterprize and letting you keep what you earn. But, they are for censorship, making gambling and drugs illegal, and meddling in personal matters that aren't any of their business.

Liberals say they support your right to choose. As long as you don't exercise it to choose how to save money for retirement, or what school you child should attend. They support your right to free speech unless they find it offensive. Then it is hate speech.

It all boils down to both Liberals and Conservatives know what's best for you and are prepared to force it on you for your own good.

I spent years trying to make sense of either side and was unable to do so. I gave up and became a Libertarian.
